🇫🇷 J'ai écrit ce livre il y a déjà 15 ans. L'histoire d'un voyage en mer de 3 ans, effectué pour la plongée sous-marine entre la Nouvelle Zélande et Mayotte. Un voyage en Mélanésie, en Asie, à travers l'Océan Indien qui m'a ramené changé sur une île que je connaissais déjà et que je garde bien au chaud au fond de mon cœur, Mayotte. Il y a dans ce livre, un récit, des extrait du carnet de voyage, des extraits du journal de plongée, des cartes, des traits d'humeur, et trois ans de ma vie. Je le publie désormais sur Hive en espérant que vous le lirez et le partagerez. 🇬🇧I wrote this book 15 years ago. The story of a 3-year sea trip, made for scuba diving between New Zealand and Mayotte. A trip to Melanesia, in Asia, through the Indian Ocean that brought me changed on an island that I already knew and that I keep warm at the bottom of my heart, Mayotte. There is in this book, a story, excerpts from the travel diary, extracts from the dive journal, maps, moods, and three years of my life. I now publish it on Hive hoping you will read and share it. VOICI LA PARTIE 13 - En Français

🇫🇷 Après une journée de navigation entre soleil, orages, je parviens sous une lumière incroyable dans la baie principale de Reef Island, perle de l’archipel des Santa Cruz. L’endroit est superbe et me laisse totalement rêveur. Un peu trop peut-être, car faute à ma oisiveté, Aurora a bien failli ce jour là, faire une rencontre musclée avec le platier de l’île... L’état du village dénote avec ceux du Vanuatu. Ils sont bien moins entretenus. A en juger par leur présence insistante, les habitants eux, voient peut-être un voilier pour la première fois.

Je trouve très vite un site de plongée incroyable: Forest Passage. Un couloir de 300m de large plongeant à plusieurs centaines de mètres de fond. J’y découvre des parois arborées d’une multitude de gorgones. Rarement je n’ai vu telle densité d’éventails. Rouges, violettes, oranges, roses, jaunes, le plus souvent géantes, toutes leurs nuances de tons sont exposées sur le même mur. Souvent accrochées sur leurs membrures de superbes crinoïdes, ces animaux préhistoriques familiers de l’étoile de mer, me retiennent de longs moments. Requins et raies aigles parcourent également ce tombant. Je plongerai Forest Passage toute la semaine sans m’en lasser, me contentant seulement de décaler le lieu de mes plongées de quelques dizaines de mètres à chaque nouvelle immersion.

Le tombant est si brutal qu’il ne laisse aucun rebord horizontal avec la falaise pour y mouiller sa pioche. Seule solution, utiliser les branches des arbres qui surplombe la mer. Dessous la verticalité impressionnante causerait des malaises à tout préposé aux vertiges. Forest Passage porte bien son nom. Une forêt intense de gorgones arbore l’ensemble de la paroi jusqu’à des profondeurs souvent irraisonnables. Quel bonheur...!”

🇬🇧After a day of sailing between sun, storms, I arrive under an incredible light in the main bay of Reef Island, pearl of the Santa Cruz archipelago. The place is superb and leaves me totally dreaming. A little too much perhaps, because through my idleness, Aurora almost that day had a muscular encounter with the flat of the island... The state of the village clashes with those of Vanuatu. They are much less maintained. Judging by their insistent presence, the inhabitants themselves may be seeing a sailboat for the first time.

I quickly find an incredible dive site: Forest Passage. A 300m-wide corridor plunging to several hundred meters at the bottom. I discover walls with a multitude of gorgonian trees. Rarely have I seen such a density of fans. Reds, violets, oranges, roses, yellows, most often giant, all their shades of tones are displayed on the same wall. Often hung on their frames of superb crinoids, these prehistoric animals familiar from the starfish, hold me for long moments. Sharks and eagle rays also travel this drop-off. I will dive Forest Passage all week without getting tired of it, contenting myself only with shifting the location of my dives by a few tens of meters with each new immersion.

Dive Log Note - Reef Island, Salomon - 25 Oct. 2009 ...Note today that it is the first time I throw my anchor into a tree! The drop-off is so brutal that it leaves no horizontal ledge with the cliff to wet its pickaxe. The only solution is to use the branches of the trees overlooking the sea. Below the impressive verticality would cause discomfort to any dizzy attendee. Forest Passage is aptly named. An intense forest of sea fans adorn the entire wall to often unreasonable depths. What happiness...!
